Type of Legalization Prescribed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has prescribed three types of legalization, which are as follows:

1. Seen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The document submitted for legalization must be translated from the original Thai document issued by a government authority. If the document has been issued by a public sector, it must be certified by the relevant authority beforehand. The application for legalization must include all required documents as prescribed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

2. Certified True Copy

The documents submitted for a certified true copy must be produced from the original document issued by a Thai authority. If the applicant is unable to bring the original document, a copy can be certified as a true copy by the authority that issued the document, unless otherwise prescribed by the relevant authority. Additionally, the copy presented must contain the same content as the original. The application for a certified true copy must be submitted as prescribed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

3. Certified Genuine Signature

The document submitted for a certified genuine signature must be the original document signed by an official of the agency, embassy, or consulate in Thailand. If the application is submitted to the Thai embassy or consulate overseas, the document must be signed by an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Notary Public, or other authorized agency as prescribed by the laws of that country. The certified genuine signature can only be performed if the official has submitted a specimen signature to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The application for a certified genuine signature must be submitted as prescribed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.

  • Case 1: If requesting a certified genuine signature of a person, the person must sign the signature in the presence of the official and submit the legalization application as prescribed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.
  • Case 2: If requesting a certified genuine signature of an authorized director on behalf of a juristic person, the authorized person must sign on behalf of the juristic person in the presence of the official and submit the legalization application as prescribed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.

For documents produced overseas and certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Notary Public, or other authorized agency as per the laws of that country, the applicant must submit the application for legalization with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand. The document must be legalized by the Royal Thai embassy or Thai consulate in that country before being submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand.
